If you haven’t seen Spotify wrapped, have you been living under a rock??
This isn’t the first year of ‘Spotify Wrapped’ but it has seemed to get better very year. In my opinion it is an early Christmas present from the leading streaming platform which summarises your music consumption on Spotify throughout the year in a colourful display of surprising statistics. Why has it been such a success amongst its users and dominated social platforms with music listeners sharing their top artists and songs for the years with their followers? Here's 5 reasons why I think it has done so well:
1. Authenticity
The first reason I think it was such a great success is authenticity. I’m a PR student and I often am not convinced by PR and Marketing activity because it's so blatantly obvious that it isn't genuine. However Spotify Wrapped is an extra motivation to visit or download the popular app. It's genuinely enjoyable to watch and read. You also can’t find the figures anywhere else as only Spotify has the information including exactly what and how much music you have listened to so it's totally authentic.
2. Shareability
The speed and ease with which you can share your top artists and top songs facilitates an influx of shared media to social platforms such as Instagram. Even the negative comments shared by Twitter users provide attention and free earned media for Spotify. There is also a Spotify Wrapped for Spotify Artists encouraging them to share Spotify content on their own social platforms with large followings
3. Personalisation
Not only is the mini slide show you can watch designed just for you but a playlist of your top song throughout the year is made to encourage you to stream what may have been forgotten music from earlier in the year. Basically, personnalisation encourages streaming.
4. NEW features
There's even more features since the launch of Spotify wrapped, including the ability to blend your top songs with other users to create a playlist for the both of you.
I am an avid Spotify user and hold the position that it is bfar better than its competitor, Apple Music so perhaps I am biased about Spotify Wrapped? However, my top artists I did not share to Instagram this year. That could be mostly down to the fact I’m embarrassed to admit my top song is a very unoriginal ‘Deja Vu’ by the well known Olivia Rodrigio (who is especially popular amongst young girls) how cliche. BUT I was pleased to find out my top artist was a less well known artist, SG Lewis. What about you, were you one of the people who rushed onto Spotify on the 1st of December to watch your Spotify Wrapped? (See an exclusive of my rather questionable top artists and songs below).
